So it turns out one of the Christmas gifts I gave to Georges just HAS to be included in Fabulous Stuff I've Found, even though it's not available on Amazon.com so I can't put it in the sidebar widget. But this was too good to keep to myself.
It's the Williams Sonoma Avocado Cuber.
Our cubes doesn't look as crisp and neat as these, but maybe our avocados were overripe, or we were just overzealous in cubing them? Who cares - the guacamole tastes great and we didn't have to break out a tourniquet tonight.
It was a year ago this week that Georges and I had to make a fast trip to the nearest Emergency Room after he sliced halfway through his left ring-finger (no, he was not trying to get his wedding band off) while attempting to cut up an avocado for a dinner we were preparing for some friends. Since then, as you can well understand, he has not been too keen on using avocado in our salads or on making fresh guacamole. I don't blame him.
Just before I made my trip to NJ in December, I spotted somewhere (online? magazine? No idea) this Avocado Cuber, and given the Williams-Sonoma reputation for having some of the best chefware anywhere, I thought I'd check it out. There's a W-S store in the Bridgewater Mall not too far from my home base in NJ, and that's where I went to pick one up.
Well, this evening the Garçon wanted fajitas for dinner, and we happened to have had some avocados handy because we did want to try out this new gadget. I'm not the type to rave over anything to do with cooking -- since I am not someone who LOVES cooking -- but I've got to tell you, this thing cubed the hell out of those avocado halves, and in about 2 seconds flat. It also got more of the meat out of the avocado, and it was totally safe. Georges and I were both quite impressed.
And then he made some of the best damn guacamole I've ever tasted.
So, if you are an avocado fan, I suggested you get one of these, or pick one up for YOUR favorite chef.
Retails for $17.95 and hey, guess what? W-S now ships internationally to 90 countries including FRANCE (you can even change the currency on their web site when ordering).
Now if you'll excuse me, I have some fajitas to prepare. With Georges' fresh, delicious, guacamole. Merci, Williams-Sonoma. You're our new best friend.
