We had an absolutely delightful second anniversary yesterday. I met Georges for a lunch date near his office, much as we did that first date two years ago (only the weather was not conducive to our eating outdoors, so we went to Polidor instead). Then, we walked to the Jardins du Luxembourg -- just as we did two years ago -- and did a fair amount of kissing to give the Senators something to gawk at. After that, I camped out in a café at the Place de la Sorbonne and did a few hours of work on my netbook while Georges went back to the office. When he was through for the day, we took the bus home to relax a bit.
And then it was out for the evening. With the Fête des Vendanges taking place here in Montmartre this weekend (more on that tomorrow) we walked around up near Rue des Abbesses and stopped for a drink... at which point the skies opened and it poured rain for the third evening in a row. Which, come to think of it, also happened on our first date two years ago. Finally we went to A La Pomponnette (www.pomponnette-montmartre.com), a 100-year-old authentic Parisian restaurant, where we had an absolutely wonderful dinner. I started with 6 huge escargot (yum!) and followed with a dish of lamb with a prune and almond sauce. Georges -- being French and therefore used to eating things I think are strange -- had a starter of something with marrow bone that he said was delicious, and then had some rabbit. I had never eaten rabbit so I did have a taste of that, but it was a big "no thank you" on the marrow bone. Hey, at least he refrained from ordering the pig's feet which I flat out told him I would not be able to stand looking at. I do encourage him to order steak tartare any time he wants it, so I think a "no pig's feet in front of me" rule is more than fair. Anyway, we loved our food and probably had too much of it. Very ample portions and quite delicious. Two thumbs up!
So if you're in the Montmartre area and looking for a good place to eat, somewhere the locals choose, please try it! Located at 42 rue Lepic in the 18th. Phone 01 46 06 08 36, and you probably should make a reservation on weekends. They were packed.
Right now, we're hanging out at home after another lovely long day at the Wine Festival... and Georges is serenading me on the piano with my favorite songs from "Amélie Poulain". He knows the way to my heart.
