I'm at the kitchen table, waiting for the brownies I just baked to cool. It's my token "holiday baking" even though they're not Christmas cookies, exactly. But my family loves chocolate and these brownies were a huge hit when I baked them for Georges' birthday.
We've been so busy doing everything we need to do before we go to the States for the holidays that we've barely had time to THINK about the holidays, much less get all our shopping done. Guess we'll have to do the rest of THAT when we get there.
I've been getting myself in the holiday mood today by starting to decorate the house and put the lights and tinsel garland on our table-top-sized live potted tree; we'll do ornaments tonight with the kids. Last night I wrapped some red garland around the banister of our spiral staircase which is painted white, so it looks like a candy cane. I found some gold gel stars and plastic "stained glass" Christmas figures to hang on our glass double front door... very kid-friendly.
And I've been watching Christmas programs because you know how it is... in America, that's how we got into the mood as kids, right? Watching the annual barrage of holiday TV programming? Of course I can't get those shows over here on regular TV but thanks to the wonders of the Internet and some DVDs, I've got access to:
(Yeah I know South Park is in poor taste but c'mon, have a sense of humor already!)
And of course, my favorite of all time: "You'll shoot your eye out, kid!"
What's Christmas without a Leg Lamp?
