Or... "How I Spent My Weekend".
This will be a quick post with a longer one to follow but I'm too keyed up to go to sleep just yet (it's actually 12:35 am on Monday night). I had the MOST fantastic weekend!
The stained glass and sore legs are because yesterday I spent the entire day visiting Chartres. I walked all over the town, which is just charming and delightful with many of the old medieval buildings still intact. I visited the famous cathedral and it's as magnificent as I had always heard. And the sore legs are because first I climbed over 400 stone steps to the top of the north bell tower (the taller and more ornate of the two mis-matched towers, which I now call "Who Needs a Stairmaster?"), followed by a very hilly hike around the rest of the town. I also visited two other magnificent churches and took over 100 photos which I will post on Flickr (I'm way behind on my photo postings!) I'll elaborate much more about Chartres during the coming week; there's lots to describe and talk about but suffice to say it was SO worth doing.
The red roses and lip balm are because The Wizard is back in town, having returned this morning from his biz trip to Montreal. We had our raincheck dinner from two weeks ago, and the weather was so miserable today and it being a Sunday (when most restaurants in this neighborhood are closed) I decided we could eat here at the apartment. So I hit the outdoor market this morning and got a cooked chicken (I don't really "cook" but I'm a mean re-heater) and other stuff for side dishes and dessert, and of course the bread and wine; it's not dinner in France without them.
He arrived more or less on time, the taxi driver having completely messed up the directions in his GPS system even though The Wizard showed him the email I sent with the EXACT address and names of surrounding streets; they ended up way over by the Eiffel Tower which is clear the other side of my arrondissement. Finally, The Wizard phoned me from the cab and let me talk to the driver in French to explain, and then he "got it" and got it right.
The Wizard brought with him a beautiful bouquet of red roses; hmmm, is he spoiling me already? I could get used to this! It was a nice change having dinner "in" because it gave us more of a chance to talk and get to know each other without waiters and other people around. So far there are no red flags or "deal breakers" from what I can
dig up determine, we clearly enjoy each other's company, and there's definitely chemistry (yep... why do you think I needed the lip balm?); all the makings of something very, very nice.
So as I drift off to sleep (now I'm really tired), I will have a lot to reflect on from this very memorable weekend. Life just keeps getting better and better.
