As much as my feet hurt after four hours of Christmas shopping, the moment I glimpsed this herd of incredibly awful reindeer (and yes, they are for sale, at Galéries Lafayette right near one of the street-level entrances -- in case you just HAVE to have one), I couldn't resist capturing them for posterity. The French are usually known for their classic good taste, but I can't imagine WHAT the buyers at the Galéries were thinking:
"Gee, let's get a few hundred of these in assorted sizes and colors, and create a whopping huge display using some adorable purple tinsel trees mixed in with the green ones for an added dose of reality, and we'll stage the whole thing right near the main entrances because these are SURE to be a big hit with the upscale Parisians who shop here, n'est-ce pas?"
Are there people who would actually buy these to decorate their homes with a little holiday disco cheer? Just think: now you, too, can be the proud owner of a spiritually uplifting display of Glitter-Deer in your living room, on your terrace, or in your front yard, and can recite your own version of "Twas the Night Before Christmas":
On Chintzy, on Gaudy, on Glitzy and Plastic
On Cheesy, on Tacky, on Ugly and Spastic...
