Some of you have written to inquire: what happened with that book client and the whole compromise issue? Did you get the deal or not?
The answer is: the jury is still out. I got email from the client on Monday saying he'd call me on Tuesday and so far I still have heard nothing either way. I did decide that if he can live with the terms then I will probably accept the project even though it might become a bigger challenge than I bargained for. But it is a very interesting project to me, topic-wise, and it's only 4 months, not forever. I'm sure it will be a worthwhile experience no matter what. Right now, the ball is in the client's court. I will post more about it when I have a firm resolution.
In the meantime, I'm not lying around waiting, peeling grapes and watching "All My Children".
I'm close to finishing a book I've been working on for another client, and that feels really good to be so close to "done". I'm lining up a variety of other projects from web design to web site copywriting to doing a query letter. My calendar is filling up at least in the short term, and there are a whole slew of other potential projects waiting in the wings after that. It would be really nice to have one big major project for a few months and then have a variety of smaller projects to add some variety.
So, thanks for asking and I'll get back to you on The Resolution.
