It is Thursday, May 19th at 2:50 AM Eastern time and I'm officially a year older (wiser... sexier... more beautiful), and I'm tolerating celebrating a birthday! It's goodbye 43, and hello to 44! (How the hell did THAT happen? Seems like just yesterday I was 24!)
4 seems to be the magic number for me this year. In numerology, our lives flow in 9-year cycles, with each year having a predominant theme. The 9-year cycles repeat themselves of course, so the themes also repeat -- but as we age the context or influence of that theme will evolve with us.
You calculate your "personal year" like this.
- Calculate the numeric value of the month you were born (May = 5, December = 12, etc.). If you were born in October, November or December, add the 2 digits together so you get 1 digit: December would be 1 + 2 = 3.
- Calculate the numeric value of the day you were born. If it's a 2 digit day, add the two digits together, and together again if necessary, to get down to a single digit. I was born on the 19th, so 1 + 9 = 10; then 1+ 0 = 1; so I will use 1.
- Calculate the numeric value of the current year. This is 2005. 2 + 0 + 0 + 5 = 7.
- Add the 3 numbers together. If you get a 2-digit number, add the 2 digits together to get a number from 1 to 9.
Example: My birthdate is May 19th. May = 5. The 19th = 1. 2005 = 7. So I add 5 + 1 + 7 which equals 13. I reduce it again by adding 1 + 3 to get 4. My "personal year number" for this year is then 4.
Different numerology sources offer slightly differing opinions on where your "personal year" begins. Some books seem to feel it's a calendar year, January through December. Others feel your personal year would logically begin in the month you were born and carry through for the next 12 months. I subscribe to the latter theory. Which means that I am transitioning into the beginning of a "4" year.
Here's what "Numerology: Key to your inner self" by Hans Decoz says about a 4 year and what may be in store for me [along with some commentary of my own]:
This is a year to be organized and practical. Take care of details. Commit yourself entirely to your goals. Your concentration and ability to focus will be much improved over last year. You will have an attitude of realism and determination. [My take: Get my act together. Get organized. Stay focused. Don't give up on my dreams.]
There can be a sense of limitation and some frustration this year. However, it is a time of important opportunities that must be seized. There can be considerable work-related travel. [Yippee! More travel - just what I am working towards... this bodes well...]
You must be flexible this year to make full use of the opportunities that present themselves. It will require a combination of perseverance, hard work, and versatility. You will receive recognition for your efforts and support from your friends and family. [I can already see this trend beginning as I am being offered a wide variety of interesting projects, from coaching to web design to ghostwriting some books. This is why I know I need to get and stay organized to stay on top of it all! It kind of feels like that "be careful what you wish for" thing.]
It is a good year to buy real estate or to remodel your home. It is also a good time to take care of projects that have been postponed for far too long. [OK, this is one thing I know I will NOT be doing this year - buying or remodeling a home. I do plan on a big garage sale over the summer to sell some of my furniture and things that are in storage collecting dust, but that's about as domestic as I plan to be this year.]
Fulfill your obligations, and do not be afraid to spend some of that hard-earned money. Selling and trading during this year are usualy quite successful endeavors. [I never have trouble spending money - are they kidding? So I'm glad to hear I will have a success at ATTRACTING money this year.]
This is the year to work on your foundation and prepare yourself for the many changes that will undoubtedly come next year. [Duly noted, and I quite agree.]
As a result of your hard work, there will be much satisfaction and a feeling of accomplishment. [Excellent!]
January and February will bring some important change; a new opportunity perhaps. March requires self-reflection and reshaping of your plans. It is a good time to meditate on what lies ahead. June brings a new and important step, a breakthrough, perhaps, in your work. October brings changes and a sense of chaos. You may feel threatened by the changes that are on the horizon. But November brings assistance in the form of a promotion or additional financial support. [I'll be looking for that breakthrough in June - something has definitely been in the air lately, a feeling that something is coming, though I don't know what. I could do without the chaos but you can't have everything... change is like that sometimes.]
The straight shot? Big changes are coming, and the planning that I am already doing is part of the "foundation building" that needs to happen in order for even bigger things to come in years following. I'm excited by the prospects of more TRAVEL and increasing sales and income in my businesses... because that's all part of the plan anyway!
It's fun to check out numerology and astrology and tarot cards as tools for self enlightenment and clarity, but of course the choices and decisions we make are not, I believe, at the mercy of the "fates" but are totally up to us.
So, as I step into my 44th year, I know it will be whatever I decide to make of it. I have a vision for where I want to be by the time I am 45, and this is the year for me to lay the groundwork and put things in motion.
And here's to my fellow May-babies... Happy Birthday to us all and here's to our biggest, brightest and BOLDEST year yet!
